Ferroelectric phase transitions induced by a strain gradient

چکیده

In perovskite oxide ferroelectrics, gradients of lattice strain are known to induce nanoscale topological structures, leading novel or enhanced functionality. Here, we experimentally detect and theoretically analyze thickness distribution structural properties in epitaxial ${\mathrm{Pb}}_{0.5}{\mathrm{Sr}}_{0.5}\mathrm{Ti}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ films grown on (001) $\mathrm{SrTi}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ substrates. We show that the relaxation substrate-imposed stress produces a gradient, which leads formation distinct ferroelectric phases as function distance from film-substrate interface within same film. Charge carriers trapped at phase boundaries stabilize induced manifest themselves under electric field. Crosstalk between phases, where polarization may rotate one invert other one, opens perspectives for advanced thin film devices.

Advances in Thermodynamics of Ferroelectric Phase Transitions

The thermodynamics of ferroelectric phase transitions is an important constituent part of the phenomenological theories of them, as well as the interface dynamics of them. Dynamics of KH2PO4 type ferroelectric phase transitions

2014 We include the configuration energy in Kobayashi’s theory for KDP-type ferroelectric crystals. The theory is then shown to be coherent from the thermodynamical point of view, as the order parameter and the frequency of the associated soft mode vanish at the same temperature. The results show that it is possible to have another kind of mixed ferroelectric, where the displacive phenomenon tr...

Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics of Ferroelectric Phase Transitions

It is well known that the Landau theory of continuous phase transitions is a milestone in the process of the development of phase transition theories. Though it does not tally with the nature of phase transitions in the critical regions, the Landau theory as a phenomenological one has been very successful in many kinds of phase transitions such as the ferroelectric phase transitions, i.e. the v...
